OOCL were looking for a new headquarters in North Sydney to support their growth and encourage more collaboration. The brand-centric outcome maximises sweeping views of Sydney harbour, with construction complete in five and a half weeks.

OOCL is a Hong Kong-based shipping and logistics company, known for their extensive vessel and service networks around the world. After being in their existing workplace for over 20 years, they were searching for a new space in Sydney to support their growing ANZ headquarters.

OOCL were looking at three potential sites, one in St Leonards and two in North Sydney. They appointed our team to undertake a due diligence assessment across the three sites. Based on our proposed layouts and building analysis, they selected their preferred location in North Sydney as it was a better match for their preferred way of working.

Our design development took a brand-led approach, incorporating subtle references to OOCL’s colours throughout the space. The red feature paneling in the reception area, is a reference to the lining on the OOCL ships. The acoustic panels feature a curved motif which references the bow of the ship, while linear grooves in the wall paneling reflect the texture of a shipping container.

A flexible breakout area is the hero of the space, with sweeping views of Sydney harbour. A large glass operable wall can open up to extend the boardroom into the breakout, to cater for large events and town halls.

Construction was completed in five and a half weeks, thanks to our early engagement with the client and by pre-ordering long lead items. OOCL was expecting to have their people impacted for a two-month period, but we were able to reduce this by two weeks, allowing them to return to their new space much sooner than expected.

As we signed on the dotted line to work with Crest, we really felt comfortable with that decision. We wanted to find a partner that would take us on the journey to create our new workplace, and their level of professionalism is what set them apart.
